2018 is well underway, New Years resolutions have been made, broken and the workplace is back up to full speed. This year we hope to see innovation and progression among businesses, but progression can only be made possible through internal communications, the pillars upon which every company is built on. Here's a few pointers to ensure you have strong internal communications moving forward into the new year.

· Develop Your Company Culture - Your company lives by a certain set of values, be it offering a welcoming environment or promoting an ideal, and employees should be in touch with that culture, the foundation upon which their work is based. It's not just about promoting the brand to the outside world. Your business, what it stands for, and what it means to be a part of that business is just as crucial.

· Emphasise Two-Way Communication – Conversation should not be a one-way road. That just limits staff to either senders or receivers. Ensure that there are open channels of communication and the chance to engage on an even basis between each other so that no-one is left feeling short-changed in the conversation department.

· Recognise Effort – Aon Hewitt reported in 2017 that of all the Global Employee Engagement Trends, the most prioritised trend was reward and recognition. So, if an employee has turned in a stellar piece of work or is celebrating an anniversary, it helps to have a system in place to acknowledge that effort and ensure that employees have can share that acknowledgement. You may even have a reward or benefits system in place. Everyone loves a free voucher!

· Invest in Technology – We're living in a digital revolution where nearly all aspects of life are placed online. Social media is the conduit connecting people. Find ways to integrate these platforms into your workplace, such as social media, video or employee communication apps. Unless you're the Flash, you can't maintain the face-to-face exchange with everyone on a day-to-day basis so it helps to have a platform that allows you to maintain frequent contact.

Engagement has never been more relevant and the only way companies can compete in the outside world is to make sure they've sorted out the internal side of things; the communications, the team relationships, the key things that push a business forward...

Push notifications are a game changer – the customised employee app enables you to reach everyone, anywhere at anytime with any content. Deliver current news or safety updates,  employee rewards or recognition programmes… direct to their smartphones. It also acts as a central location for other employee centric functions, and as a two-way communication tool.
